Student Dress and Grooming Policies
WSHUHSD POLICY - The following guidelines shall apply to all regular school activities.

  1. Students will not wear clothing or accessories that depict or advocate for violence, criminal activity, alcohol or drug use, weapons, pornography, hate speech, or gang-related activity (including professional sports wear and colors identified by the Santa Clarita Sheriff as gang affiliated).

  2. Clothing and jewelry shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which are crude, vulgar, violent, profane, OR sexually suggestive OR which advocate racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice OR the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.

  3. Accessories such as heavy chains and jewelry with dangerous points or spikes are prohibited.

  4. Clothing related to guns, weapons, or ammunition are prohibited.

  5. Clothing with marijuana leaves or plants will be confiscated and only returned through a parent meeting. This includes articles of clothing OR brands related to marijuana.

  6. Students must wear clothing that completely covers the chest, torso, undergarments, private areas, and bottom. See-through or low-cut tops, and bare midriffs, are prohibited. Shirts, tops, and dresses must have straps.

  7. Bandanas of any kind or color are prohibited.

  8. Students may not wear clothing or accessories that obscure the face with the exception of approved religious items. THIS ITEM IS EXEMPT DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. Masks must be worn and school appropriate.

  9. Safe footwear must be worn. No slippers or pajamas are allowed.

 

 

STUDENT ATTIRE & PERSONAL GROOMING (As judged by the principal and his/her designees) must be:

  1. Clean in appearance and fragrance.

  2. Safe in the total school environment in which worn. Conducive to district educational pursuits.

  3. Not represent any group, gang organization, or philosophy which advocates violence or disruption, or that have any history of violence or disrupting the objectives of school instructional programs.

  4. No gang style script and apparel are permitted.

 

 

BOWMAN SPECIFIC DRESS CODE IN ADDITION TO DISTRICT POLICY
In order to clarify the somewhat general guidelines stated in the District’s “Student Dress and Grooming Regulations” cited above, parents and students are advised of the following specific guidelines which are designed to help provide a safe and educational atmosphere at our school:

  1. No T-shirts or other items of clothing which contain profanity, vulgarity, violence, etc. or which promote/advertise alcohol, weapons, or controlled substances.

  2. No initialized hats (including SOX), du rags, old English writing, bandannas, or stocking caps.

  3. No belt buckles with initials.

  4. Females: No shirts which expose the midriff, bathing-suit type tops, see-through or strapless tops. Males: No tank tops with over-sized arm holes allowed.

  5. No articles of clothing are to be personalized (name, nickname, gang/group names, etc.)

  6. No long shorts worn with high white socks.

  7. Tattoos designated as inappropriate must be covered up as directed by administration.

 

Nothing in this policy restricts the administration from establishing specific dress standards to meet individual school needs or specific circumstances.
